I am so in LOVE with the buffet my hubby built for me! I still need to get glass for the doors, but other than that, it's all done. Did you notice that table runner sitting on top?
I made it! Way cute huh! And oh so simple. I'm lovin the prairie points on the ends.
And the fabric is so Martha? Target? Pottery Barn-ish?
Last year Michelle over @ Michelle Sew's posted a tutorial on making a Whirlygig Block with a template she made specifically to use her 5x5 Charm Squares. She saw my Square It Up templates and asked if I could cut her a whirlygig template. After a few adjustments, & trial and error, we came up with a great set!
Here's a quick tutorial on how to make a Whirlygig Block using 5x5 Fabric Charm Squares and the whirlygig, a.k.a. Funky Pinwheel Template Set.
*IMPORTANT STEP 1
Lay 2 fabric squares WRONG SIDES UP {both squares should be WRONG side up} Cut along the long edge. You now have 4 whirlygig "blades".
Step 2 Cut a 5" x 44" strip of your background fabric. I chose white. Than take the #6 Template and cut, flipping the template upside down every other cut. {2 cuts = 4 whirlygig "blades". }
Step 3 Lay out your print and background fabrics, as shown.
Sew together as shown
Finish the block & press
For my Table Runner I sewed 8 blocks together in one long row. Than added a 2" trim. I made the Prairie Points from 2 1/2" squares. I quilted the top with a piece of batting behind it only. Then I sewed on the back, right sides together, leaving an opening to turn. Turn right side out, slip stitch closed, and then top stitched around the outer edge.
Wah Lah! I {heart} this one. Whimsical and Fun I think. Whirlygig a.k.a. Funky Pinwheel Templates are available in my ETSY STORE by Custom Request. They sell for $3.75 + $2.00 Shipping. And I'm totally stocked up on Awesome Halloween 5x5 Fabric Packs too!
Happy Halloween !

darling table runner.
your husband/buffet maker is a rockstar. hold up your phone with the light on next time he walks into the room and wave is from side to side, while making crowd screaming sounds for emphasis!!
thanks for the tutorial. i can't sew anything right now, but it's nice SOMEONE can..
I looove how your room looks! The buffet is fantastic. Wish my hubby was handy like that.
I have a really d-u-m-b question about the tutorial for the table runner. When you put the charm squares together to cut them with the template, do you use two squares of the exact same fabric?
The prairie points are oh so good on this project! I like that you used Halloween prints for the project.
I just love the before and after shots. Both are so unique and fun.
Too cute...I love that you took a need and capitalized on it! The runner is awfully cute...you should submit it to a quilting magazine!
