Comment Moderation and Word Verification

I've seen a lot of posts lately about having to use Comment Moderation or Word Verification on Blogs.

I thought I'd share a little tip. (and knock on wood it's worked fantabulous for me).

Instead of using the Word Verification Tool on Blogger for unwanted comments. (comments that have nothing to do with the post and who knows who and where they came from).

Try this:

Go to Settings, then Comments
See this part down the page aways;

Choose Comment Moderation = Only on posts older than 14 days. (click on that little circle).

I've had this on my blog for quite some time now and it totally works. I've got every bit of spam. Nothing has gone on the blog and I've not had to use Word Verification.

Try it, you might like it. ;o)

Thanks Jodi. When I took off word verification I got a lot of spam comments. I dislike using word verif (although I secretly try to make works out of the nonsense and some make me giggle). I'll give this a try.

Thanks you so much for the lesson on word verification! I've changed mine now. The last month or so I've been getting weird comments on some of my older posts and it hadn't even occurred to me that I could change a setting. Thanks a bunch! - Marlene

Oh, I hope lots of people are reading this! I HATE word verifications -- what a waste of time! I have wordpress and we have a tool that catches our spam for us, so we don't have this problem. Of course, none of this would be necessary if it weren't for the stoooopid spammers!

What does this setting do? I have had a few suspect comments left from people with no blogs of their own - just a profile page. What part does the 14 days play?

THANK YOU for this little tid bit of information! That is exactly where I am getting the obnoxious spam comments...they are finding my older posts! Thanks for helping me out on this one!

Thank you! I think this will be the perfect solution to all that crazy spam I've been receiving.

Thanks for the tip. I recently took verification off and have not yet had issues with spam, yet, so I will activate this as since it seems like an easy enough safegaurd.

Is anyone else getting comments written in foreign characters? I clicked thru on one (dummy!) and found a "hot Asian women" website! Yikes. Couldn't close that window and delete the comment fast enough!

I have that on as well as word verification. Maybe I'll take the verif. off. Thanks! You are always full of useful information!
