One day a while ago, a friend showed up at my door. She had a box. The box had a familiar logo on it, one I hadn't seen since childhood. And some writing. Do you see what the writing say's on this box? Could it be? Why yes it could!
Yo Yo's! Tons of them. Old Yo Yo's. Vintage Yo Yo's. A box full of Vintage Yo Yo's.
"For real?" I say. "Yes", she says. 100's of Vintage Yo Yo's. All hand sewn into blocks. There are 10 blocks total. In Vintage fabrics. Hidden in the box were some circles of fabric waiting to be made into a Yo Yo. And some loose Yo Yo's too. The Yo Yo blocks need to be cleaned. I am afraid. So instead I'll pretend I cleaned them and hang them on the clothesline. It makes for a pretty picture. I think I will make a baby quilt with them. Then someday when I'm a grandma, I can snuggle with the grandbabies under the Vintage Yo Yo's that my friend gave to me.
Oh, what a wonderful gift. I am soooo jealous and excited for you! That must have been so much fun to look through that box and to touch each one of those yo-yo's.
Oh Jodi. What a special gift! Can you just imagine the hands that made each yo-yo?! What a sweet idea to create a baby quilt to one day wrap your dear grandbabies in with you. Sincerely ~ Tricia
You lucky girl! They're beautiful! I just love those old fabrics. No matter how many times they try to imitate them, they can't replicate the memories they evoke. Brenda
So calling all friends...where do you find a friend like that? What an amazing gift for a quilter...and with your talents a future treasure! Congratulations Jodi!
WOW! I made TWO of these quilts when I was in my teens but in recent years gave them away!!! I love it that you have these and hope mine are still being loved!
I have a yo-yo quilt top that needs repair and backing. My Great Grandmother's housekeeper made it. I also have her box of scraps and unfinished yo-yos with her thin cardboard pattern.
Lipmans. What a treasure. When I was a girl it was Pomeroy's in my neck of the woods. I would love to find a Pomeroy's box with such a treasure inside.
