The Little Yellow Coat

I had a lot of emails and comments about my mom's Little Yellow Coat. I am thrilled that she let me be the keeper of it. It hangs right here on my quilt rack for me to enjoy each day.

{my quilt rack was built by my husband. I hope someday to have a tutorial}

The coat was made by her grandmother. The sewing is simply fantastic.

I love all the detail and the trim. And the color of yellow is just perfect.

I thought I'd share some of the other "little" clothes I have. These are my boys' baby boxes. I have 3 boys. Each box contains a few of my favorite baby items of theirs, and their blessing outfits.

This is what you see when you open No. 1's box;

This is my blessing dress and bonnet (I think it's considered an antique now) (scary)

This is one of my outfits. I have always loved red.

And this is my husband's. So darn cute, that little bow tie.
And here's a photo of him with it on.
Someday I hope to have all our blessing outfits framed in shadow boxes and hanging on one of our bedroom walls. I saw it in a magazine once and absolutely loved it. {and don't worry they won't be in direct sunlight}.

I'm glad you all commented on the Little Yellow Coat, it sparked the idea for this blog post and It was simply fun opening the boxes for this post.

So very dear. We just were blessed with our first grandchild....a darling little Clare. It has gotten me to go thru the boxes of sweet clothing I have saved and cherished. It always brings on a deep sigh and a catch in the throat. Thanks for a sweet post that touched my heart.

What a beautiful post, Jodi. I just love that little yellow coat.

Those blessing gowns will look wonderful in shadow boxes and hanging. Our children's gown is still being used for christening, but I may have to think of that idea when they are done with it.

I can only imagine the sweet memories that flooded back as you opened each box. How precious. Thank you for sharing in more detail, your mom's little jacket. :o) It is a timeless treasure for sure!
Have a great day.

It's wonderful having such tangible memories and isn't it great that you have them. I especially love the yellow coat and the color is so happy it makes me smile. I love them.

I made two of the four blessing dresses that I have saved for my kids and the most special one is the one my mother bought for my daughter (oldest grandchild) especially now that my mother has been gone for nearly 18 years.

Thanks for the sweet memories.

beautiful and inspiring me to get the same done. I don't have any of my old clothes, but maybe my mom does.

Manuela, your mom's little coat is so sweet, and dare I admit it? I have one very similar to it that my grandmother made me when I was little. Packed away in the attic along with many more sweet little outfits that her loving hands sewed. What a sweet treasure these little outfits are. My daughters actually wore some of my childhood, grandma made dresses to church and they always got the most comments wearing their little vintage clothes:>) Some day your boys wives will be so glad to see these little outfits. I have some of my sweeties things and they make me smile:>)

G'day Jodi ~ What lovely beautiful treasures & keepsakes. I love them all. I think the lining of that little yellow coat looks like vintage feedsack fabric that we have in our shop.

I have a hard time letting go of things like this too. I love just looking & touching them.

Have a wonderful summer day ~

I have the outfit my daughter wore for her first birthday hanging in my laundry room. Below it is a picture of her and her cake, taken in the driveway because our camera didn't have a flash. Her daughters love looking at it and the picture of Momma. Your coat is darling and such a keepsake, thank you for sharing.

What great memories they hold for you. My daughter has a cedar chest with our old things in it. I do not have anywhere to display any of them.

How beautiful! Your post has brought back lovely memories of my boys when they were little. I have some clothes like that stored away, don't have anywhere to display them! I must get them out and have another look, maybe even photograph and post about them too! I love the bonnet. I have a christening gown that I think was my mother's of a similar style and vintage! Thanks for the memories!
