Spring Cleaning in the Fall

I "Spring Clean" in the Fall. We can have some long dark winters here in the Pacific Northwest. So the last thing I want to do when the Spring comes and the sun finally finds it's way out, is be in the house cleaning.

It always feels great to clean after the lazy days of summer, and the added bonus is that my house is pretty neat and tidy when it's time to start decorating for the Holidays.

Tools of the trade I wouldn't think of Spring Cleaning without

The sugar, salt and pepper shakers are cleaned and filled...

The spices gone through; old thrown out, lists made for things we're out of...

The "baking center" cleaned and stocked...

Re-organized the dish cupboards a bit, and tossed a few odds and ends... Added space for my cherry glasses I received for my birthday in May... {love my cherry glasses}!

Thought you might get a kick outta seein this; this is the cupboard door to the previous photo. Wouldn't it be fun to keep these on something you could frame later.

The shelves are dusted and straightened..

The green picnic basket? It is full of all my Sprinkles

Sitting below the picnic basket is another metal container full of my cupcake papers.

The kitchen is almost done. And it feels oh so good. I also cleaned ALL the blinds in the house and boy did they need it. Gross. As the fall sun comes shining through my sparkling windows and newly cleaned blinds, I can't help but smile.

Do you Spring or Fall Clean?

Come over to my house, please. Your cupboards look so clean and organized and I love that blind cleaner. I'll have to find me one of those. I usually do a late fall cleaning as the shelves are cleared for Christmas decorating. Patty

I "spring" clean in in the fall too. There's something about knowing that I will be stuck indoors for the next 6 months that motivates me to get cleaning.
Great post!

You need to be very patient and well organised person to achieve this at home. I am not. It is good that there are companies who offer this kind of service.

I know what you mean! Our place faces the dark north, here in Chicago. I am preparing to clean all the baseboards and everything else. Your shelves look great, I use the same containers for my flour/sugar etc.

Have a great weekend!

I usually Spring Clean, but I'm thinking you have something going with the Fall Cleaning. Everything is clean for decorating. Genius. It's just what my apartment needs.

I had to chuckle when I saw your post for today, most of my friends think I'm crazy to spend so much time cleaning. I love the organization and letting go of what I no longer need. I actually spring clean AND fall clean!

We live in Vancouver, BC, and have no air conditioning, so my windows have been open all summer. Therefore, I am planning to do some pretty heavy cleaning this month as the rains begin and we close the windows and snuggle in for the winter. It makes more sense to me to clean deeply in the fall after the windows have been open for 3 months.

Jodi, that blind cleaning tool is fascinating. I believe that would be a great help in brightening my blinds. If you don't mind my asking, where did you find yours?

When I was younger, I did both. Now, I "like" to clean in early November when the whether has cooled down a bit here and the garden/yard are under control --I can always clean inside when the rain is falling. DH has promised to rent a power washer and clean the outside. Washing the outside windows was part of the promise, too. Cleaning will be so much easier for me this year. Yay! Now if I can just find one of those handy dandy blind tools!

I Fall clean also. The house seems dirtier then after the ins and outs of Summer. Don't like being inside in the Spring either! Your photos are great!

What an inspiration! I love the idea of Fall Cleaning just before the holidays. Loved seeing your pantry and cupboards. Think I'd better start my Fall cleaning, too.

I clean in the fall, too. I love to get my house clean and organized before the chaos of the holidays begins and before we're stuck inside during the long, cold, snowy Utah winters. I love your blind cleaner...very cleaver!!

CLEAN!! You are really supposed to clean ?? Wouldn't it just be easier to move? lol We are in the middle of redoing the kitchen and it will be heavy duty cleaning time for me when that's finished. And my washer quit so now the laundry room will get cleaned really well when we take out the old one and move in the new one.
