I've been sewing a bit these days. I've started 3 new scrappy projects; all using my fabric scraps. Yesterday I shared one of my scrappy projects with you. It's my 2009 Scrappy Quilt.

Here are my scraps. For me, anything less then a quarter of a yard and/or less then a fat quarter, goes into one of these bins by color.

The bins and shelving came from Target. The bins come in Black or a Gray Metal finish. I spray painted the gray bins, white. There are 9 of them.
1. Red, 2. Oranges & Yellows, 3. Black & Grays, 4. White & Cream, 5. Green, 6. Blues & Purples, 7. Brown, 8. Pinks and 9. Halloween {I'm saving all Halloweenish fabric scraps to make a Halloween string quilt someday}

I would love to share my projects with you and show you how I use my scraps!
How bout, 4 {maybe 5} easy peasy scrappy projects ?!
These won't be Start to Finish projects. But that's O.K. because I'll show you how I organize my scrappy projects. {most scrappy projects are a work in progress for a while}. It's all super simple and you can do it too.
{I'll help ya get organized, and get ya started on the project. Then we'll move on to the next project. We'll do this like 4 or 5 times! Then you'll have FOUR or FIVE uberly cool Scrappy Projects to work on whenever you get the fancy to.}
Oh. And I say 4 maybe 5 because I might just cave and show you my 2010 Scrappy Quilt I'm working on.
If you're game and you want to participate in my Sew Scraps Along;
1. here's a button to blog about and/or put on your side bar.
2. Please RSVP in the form of a comment on this post. I would love to know who's going to be following and playing along. Oh! And please ask any questions you might have, so I'll be sure to answer them.
3. Gather your scraps together in one place. i.e. a Basket, Box, Bins, or a plain ol free brown paper garbage sack. Whatever works for you.
All done? K. Get ready for about 5 weeks of Scrappy Goodness! Not sure how many posts I'll publish each week. But each week I'll feature a different Scrappy project and some other good stuff too!
At the end of each week, we'll have a little Linky Party where you can share the start of your Scrappy projects! Or your scraps. Or how you organize your scraps. Or a previous scrappy project you've done! All kinds of scrappy goodness!
Okey Dokey? Make a List and Check it Twice. Today's list includes 3 things to do {see the list above}. And we'll get this Sew Scraps Along party started!
Oh and you just might be interested to know that some of my bloggy friends are joining in the fun! And I hear they're cleaning out some of their scraps. Wonder what they'll do with all those scraps? Wonder if they'll throw them away? Or maybe they'll bury them in the bottom of their closet?
You know what would be really cool?... If they gave them away. hmmmmm... Perhaps I just dropped a really big hint. {tee hee}

1 – 200 of 290 Newer› Newest»I can't wait to see what you've got. I am currently 7 blocks away from finishing a scrap string quilt (maybe I should call it my 2010 scrap quilt) and have lots of other scrap ideas floating around in my head. Let's compare notes... :)
I've never done a scappy project, but would love to learn. Sounds like fun.
My sewing machine is still in MI. I pick it up on Oct. 23. I will follow along in spirit and start mine late. How fun! Thanks for doing this!
How fun! I'm in the middle of a "Block A Day", not as a group, just by myself of a scrappy project. I'm ready for more. This is a great idea. I wanna play! Toni
Hey Jodi
I have your button on my side bar
and scraps are ready to go
Thanks
Regena
Oh yes Jodi!! Count me in! I can not wait to see what we will do and I can hardly wait to get started! Thanks a bunch for your scrap along. I am going to post your button on my side bar for sure and blog as we go along, about what we are doing. :o) The linky party will be so much fun, I always love to see what everyone has created!!
Have a super day and please (oh please!) don't keep us in too much suspense with your 2010 scrappy quilt! ;o)
BTW - I am loving all your Mary Engelbreit fabrics in your scrappy quilt!! :o) I ordered 1 yard of cherry fabric from Joann's and was thinking about you!! I would love that to go in our scrappy projects. :o)
Sincerely - Trish
This is going to sound sad but....I tried to add your botton to my blog but with no success. I love the idea though. Would love to try and follow along. :0)
I'll definitely be following along, not sure how much I'll accomplish though!
I love this idea! And I mean LOVE! So excited! I always see such cute scrappy projects but I can never seem to get into it! Maybe this will help me out!
I think a scrappy project would be fun! I'll start gathering and make sure I've got scraps to work with.
This is going to be a lot of fun...I'll be organizing scraps today!
I would love to sew along!! I have my scraps organized by color too, so it should be fun!
This sounds great! Thanks so much!
I would love to play, but unfortunately I have no scraps in which to play with. I gave all my fabric away before we made that stupid move to Texas and now I have to rebuild it all......I could just kick myself AND if I ever think to do it again, I hope someone else will kick me. Seriously. WHAT WAS I THINKING?
I'll be watching along for great ideas that I can use starting next year to work through my scraps. Right now I'm too busy trying to finish up this years projects and clean things up for the holidays and a fresh new year start.
I love the look of scrappy quilts but can't seem to get myself motivated enough to make one. I am hoping you will be the motivation I need.
This sounds like fun! count me in - I need to get back to quilting now that school is back in full swing and I have time.
I am very excited at the thought of using up some of the scraps that have been accumulating in the sewing room. Thanks for the inspiration!
I am so excited about your Scrap Along. I am what you call a pretend quilter. I don't really know what I'm doing, but I pretend. I have a ton of scraps. Scraps I keep because every crafty person on the internet says that scraps can make wonderful projects. I don't know how to use my scraps, organize my scraps, or come up with a project to do. I don't really know how to pick colors either. This Scrap Along will be perfect for me. Thanks
+-count me in. I have plenty of scraps
thanks julie
I am very excited about this. I made each of my daughters a string scrappy quilt last year. but I SWEAR the big bucket of scraps grew...each time I used a strip, 3 more magically appeared. The scrap bin is apparently bottomless, so maybe this will help me shrink it up a little. Assuming they don't magically reproduce again during this event!!
L love the idea of yearly scrappy quilts! particularly if they turn out lovely like yours! lol! I poated your sidebar and am counting myself in!!
♥ E
actually I posted not poated....ha!
(2nd try)
I have no blog, but I'm joining anyway. I have a flickr account I use to show my stuff.
I'm ahead of the game. My scraps are already sorted (pretty much) and sitting in a grocery bag here, just staring at me. I need a kick to get going.
I'm in!
I'm totally up for scrappy projects. I'm getting sick of looking through the same scraps in my bin, but I could love them again in some cute projects...and this could be my Christmas gift-making jump start. Yay!
Jodi, I will defnitely following you along with the "Scraps Along". This will be so much fun. Can't wait to get started.
I would love to join you, and may. Right now I'm up to my neck with school projects. I'm posting your button and hoping to squeeze in time for scraps. Great idea Jodi! You know, I may be your biggest fan. I love everything you do so bring it on! ;D
I'm in too! What a great idea! :)
http://tambocreates.blogspot.com
I would love to join this sew along!!! I've been trying to just use my stash for a while now! I have a lot of scraps too!
I will most certainly be following along. I don't know how much I'll get done (school and work darn it!)but I'm here to watch, learn and be inspired:>)
This is just the thing that I've been looking for as my scraps have been sorted and ready to go for a year or so! Let the projects begin!
It will be great to use up some scraps! Thank you for starting the challenge!
I usually give my scraps away to my more talented friends. I think I'll try this time.
Here is the scoop jodi, the scraps are all tidied up in their fancy tissue bound box, your button is up, my foot peddle is idling...my finger is twitching...my nose is itching... and now I need a coffee...psst I am ready when you are...Ohhh is that Sherri I see...Hi Sherri...
piece be with you..msamm
How could I refuse this?
YES! I'll join as there are lots of scraps taking up space in my sewing room!
Karen
Jodi, I will defnitely be following along with the "Scraps Along". Can't wait to get started!!
Sounds like fun :-)
I think i would love to play along or at least look at what you are doing. I don't have a lot of scraps so unless the scrap fairy smiles at me, I'll just be enjoying all the neat projects you are going to share.
Oh yeah! I am SO there! I have a big laundry basket full of scraps that need to desperately find a home. I can't wait for this! :-)
I'll sure be following along in spirit. Can't wait to see what everyone is going to do.
I would love to play along. I hope I can keep up! Seems here lately, my best laid plans for sewing have not worked out like I thought. Even if I can't keep up, I can't wait to see what you are going to share!!
Looking so forward to your post. Now if daughter and slow down with the preeclampsia!!!!! Baby due Nov. 22, but we are hoping for 2 weeks!
Yes, please! I'd love to play along! Scrappy is the best and I look forward to using up some of my scraps!
This is great! I love to use up scraps! I've added your button to my sidebar so count me in! And thanks! :0)
I definitely want to follow along and start using my scraps. They need organization so badly!! I love how you've organized your color bins. Please count me in, but i may need to wait a week before starting. And i'll put your button on my sidebar--I need to ask my daughter how to re-size. Thanks!
this sounds like so much fun! count me in!
I'd like to play for sure! The more I sew, the more my scraps seem to multiply. I could use some fresh ideas. Thanks.
I'm in.
And it's gonna be a blast!!!
Thanks Jodi...from one scrapaholic to another...
xx
lori
Oh how fun. I will most certainly be checking out all these projects. How fun. I only wish I had all the gorgeous scraps you have. Sadly, I have very few. Is it bad to just cut up fabric to make it into scraps? LOL
Okay, I'm curious... and I have scraps. So, I'm going to try to play along, at least until other responsibilities take over.
Sounds like fun!
Count me in...I may be a little late getting started but using up scraps sounds like a very good thing.
This definitely sounds like fun. I just don't know if I have "enough" scraps yet. Seriously...LOL! I will definitely keep my eyes out for this! :D
I would love to play along but don't have a blog. I may just follow and watch. Sounds like fun and I do love scrappy quilts. I have a string quilt sitting on my quilter just waiting to be quilted. Maybe I will get that done as I follow along.
I'd love to follow along. I have my scraps organized already. Just waiting for motivation to hit me. Hopefully you are it!
Oops, forgot to add I don't blog either.
In! And I am involved in a scrap swap so soon I shall have new pickins from jolly old England!!!
Gonna to my blog to put the button in the sidebar.
This is gonna be sooooooo much fun!
Thanks Jodi.
Me???? I don't have any UFO's (snicker). Just why are you starting this when I have so many other projects to get done? Hmmmm......to join or not to join?
YES!!
I already have some of my scraps ready. I am looking forward to see what you will be doing.
this sounds like a great idea....I'm making some small string blocks now for a table runner and have lots more scraps I need to use up
Sure, count me in. Sounds like fun and I love anything scrappy!
I'm in! I'm looking forward to the organizing part of it ... my scraps are all smooshed in a giant tote box.
I have been organizing my scraps and I am ready to go!!!
Sounds like so much fun.
Can't wait to see what you have in store for us.
Count me in...I'm a new quilter, so hopefully I can keep up with you all. Thanks
I have sooooo many scraps. I can't wait to play with all your great ideas!
I have your button added to my blog, my scraps all in one bag, and will keep up the best I can! I love having several scrap projects going at the side - it's too fun to end up with a quilt's worth of blocks without realizing how many I've made!
Sounds like fun. Love how you store your scraps! I did a scrappy 9 patch last year (er, except the 3 inches of binding i need to finish sewing on) and loved it.
I'd also be happy to giveaway a bag of scraps--I've got some fun stuff!

This sounds like so much fun!!! I love scrap quilts but I'm never sure of what to do with my scraps!! I am in a bad habit of making a quilt from one fabric line which is expensive and getting kinda boring! Thanks for doing this!
Libby
Hmmmmm. Maybe I'll join too! I think I have a good pile of scraps going. Count me in!
I AM IN!!! I need to do this too, first get organized and do something with all my pretty scraps!
great idea and THANKS!!!
I would surely love to give it a go...count me in some at least...Mica/The Child's Paper
Sign me up buttercup!
I'm in! ;)
I am in! Very excited to use my scraps. I normally save them for applique on my embroidery machine. But, I would love to turn them into something else! Thanks for the challenge!
Hi Jodi- am I too late? I am playing along, but have been away! Can't wait to get started! Some many scraps, so little time!
Hiya,
I might want to play along, but as a new sewist, I don't have very many scraps at the moment, I'm going to follow and see if there is anything I can join in with as I have a lot of charm squares...
Hi Jodi,
It's Friday and your "Sew Scraps Along" made this week's Top 5 Hits. No only is your quilt adorable, but I wanted to help get the word out!
Hugs from Idaho!
I love scrappy projects and quilts. I have so many of them. Looking forward to sewing with you to manicure some of them.
I would love to join - but no blog. Not sure I have enough scraps. Thanks for doing this!
Love this idea and would DEFINITELY like the sew scraps along with you. Can't add the button yet as I don't have a blog yet but will be redressing that in the next few weeks so will do so then.
I've never made a scrap quilt so this will be my first. I am ready to learn.
I'm going to try to sew along with you. I have one scrappy project going (strip squares) but stil have lots of scraps to work with. This will have to be done in conjunction with my Christmas gifts (2/3 done), 2 BOMs, 1 Christmas applique project, plus one new quilt. Oh, my!!
Okey, dokey! Ready to play. Looking forward to what you have in store for us! I have lots of scraps!
I'm a little late to the party, but I'm SOOOOO in! Can't wait!!
I would love to join in...will post the link on my blog...sounds like fun
Hi Jodi,
I think I have fixed the e-mail problem. Thanks for pointing it out. I would love to join your "Sew Scraps Along" project. It will help me organize and get my scraps into a project or so.
Yes I'm keen, ready and waiting...
What a wonderful idea. I just love using up scraps although I'm sure they multiply when I put them away for a while. I am currently making the BOW on the Quilt Show and have only purchased background fabric, all the rest has come from my scraps. I looooove scrap quilts
Karen again I forgot to mention that I would love to have your button a bit smaller for my sidebar. I don't know how to make it smaller so need your help with this one. Many thanks
I have a few (thousand) scraps and I love to play with them!
I am here, I am here!!!! Don't have a blog- :( but PLEASE, PLEASE, may I sew along????
I will be out of town for a couple of weeks, but I am looking forward to participating when I return. I just found your blog and I am HAPPY!!!
I in for a scrap-along - what fun !
I love scrappy projects and I'm happy to join you. I now have your button on my sidebar. :)

Sandi from Sonora, CA
I'd like to scrap-along with you!
Count me in! Anything to clear out some of these scraps (so I can get some more!). Thanks for the fun.
Oh, I just found this and am so excited! I love scrappy! I am in and I have completed my list of 3 tasks. Yippee Skippee!
I need to do something about organizing my scraps (using them wouldn't hurt either). So I'm in. Not sure how much I'll get done, but better to start then not right?
I'd love to play! My scraps are my favorite. And yours looks so pretty.
I have my scraps ready to see what is in store for them!
Looks like a lot of us have scraps and more scraps and need ideas. Count me in. Thanks for organizing this fun project.
Can't wait to get started. I have a group on Connecting Threads called "Scrap Bags" this is right up my alley!
I'd love take part of your scrap-along. I don't know how to put your button on my blog but I hope it is OK to come along without it.
Lotta in Sweden
I am officially in.... love to join with my few collections of scraps though ... somehow will get more scraps... or maybe I must buy some.... but still I am joining in.. Thanks!
Hi! What a great idea! I can't wait to participate, and I LOVE the way you organize your scraps. Is the bookcase with your scrap bins also your cutting table? I may have to get myself one of those!
I'm in!
What a great idea. Seems scrappy is what I do. Looking forward to your ideas. I do not have a blog to post the button on. Joanne H
Well! You must have read my mind. I have scraps popping thru the roof. (of course that is an exageration) I would love to see your ideas for using them up. Thanks
Yes, I want to make a quilt or two...am anxious to see what patterns you have for us. I may not begin till I see one that sings to me! :)
I'm in! I love scrappy projects! I have plenty of scraps, but it's always so interesting and fun to be able to use somebody else's scraps. I'm anxious to see what you have in store for us.
Hi Jodi... I am going to join in too! Made a post today and will put the button on my sidebar. Thanks so much! Karen
Hi. I put your button on my blog. I will certainly be following your ScrapAlong. I am totally scrappy! Thanks for taking the time to do this.
I've never done anything scrappy so really excited about stating. I have added to my side bar.
I really need to use up some scraps, so count me in. Thanks!
Hiya Jodi,
I'm in too. I'm a fairly new quilter and have lots of scraps from sewing clothing. Jo Anna
I'm thinking of scraps every day, now I think I have to start one! Have put the button on my side bar. Thank you!
What a fun idea! I love your blog and can't wait to get started on thinning out my scrap pile. Thanks for the motivation!
I would love to sew scrap along with you! unfortunately as I am still new to the quilting world, I don't have a lot of scraps so I'm not sure how many projects I'll get out of them!
Ok, I'm in! Got my tub of scaps, though they sure aren't organized:)
I'm in and can't wait!
I am in!
I have really enjoyed the quilt alongs I have participated in (one - but starting 2 more) and am looking forward to "Sew Scraps Along". I like to be able to use up fabric I already have. Thanks for organizing this.
Always looking for scrap projects. And looking forward to playing along.
I would love to join in on this if I am not too late. Thank you.
I can't wait to play along and see what kind of quilt you come up with!
I love scrap quilts!! This idea sounds wonderful. I am finishing a scrap flannel quilt. And I am using all the leftover flannel pieces to make the backing. I have added your button to my blog and I am ready to get started. Thanks!!
Mmm. Scrappy...
I might have to clean out some UFO boxes so I have room for more.
I would love to have new ideas for my scraps. I've made a couple of Log Cabin quilts and I'm working on a stripey one out of my scraps, but somehow I ended up with more scraps then when I started.
I should definitely sort out a problem "scraps everywhere in the house" - I hope I'll find some tips to do it:)
Im so excited to join you!
This sounds just what I need to get kick-started into using my scraps. I don't have a blog but have a flickr account. Hope you'll let me play!!
This sounds like such fun. I just finished up my daughter's baby shower so I've not done alot of sewing lately. This would be a great way to get back to it. Thanks again.
Sounds like fun... I'll try to follow along and hopefully be able to finish something pretty along the way.... thanks..
Sounds like fun, Jodi. Count me in too.
Count me in, please!!! I love my scraps so much... I'm getting ready to move, so the "organization" is going to change.... preferable onto shelves and off the kitchen floor... I'll have no excuse since my husband have already given me domain over the third bedroom of the house we're buying. :)
Hooray for pretty little scraps and all the memories they hold in such a small space.
I just committed to the scrap vomit quilt at www.imagingermonkey.blogspot.com, so I'm not sure how many scraps I can possibly still have when I'm done cutting for that one, but for everything that's not 2.5" to be squared, I'm in! I'm all for reducing my stash so I can restock it!!!!
--kelli
I am so excited for this. My scraps are not as diverse as they could be but I'm sure I'll have enough to get me started!
I'm following. Can't wait to see your scrapy projects!
Excited to begin! Thanks for the inspiration.
I am following and hoping to have enough scraps to make something! LOL I am a new quilter but would love to be organized w/ my scraps from the get-go! Thanks
butler83ataoldotcom

I don't have a blog but am VERY interested in your projects so I will be following along. And sewing when able to :)
Looking forward to working more with my scraps. It is amazing what you can do with them. Will upload the button this week. Thanks.
With scraps coming out of my ears, this is exactly what I need!
I would like to sew along with you in this scrap challenge , I have a few scraps I could use ;-)and I love scrappy projects makes me feel good to use what is left over from previous projects .
Sheila
Can't wait to watch and learn! 3 steps - check, check and check!
Hello, I found you via Sherri at A Quilting Life and I love, love, love scrappy quilts. So I am in .... this is going to be fun !
I don't know how I fornd this site! But glad to see this, sounds like fun. Hope I figure out how to join you all before I get lost. I don't have a blog so do I need a Google Account? What will the Google account do? Do we just check every day? Where it said "choose an identity" I put name but don't have a URL just e-mail
dianlee@hughes.net.
I love to do scrape quilts and I am ready to see what you have. I'm in.
I'm all about scraps! My favorite quilts are scrappy - they're just so welcoming! I love the way you have sorted your scraps - looks like a trip to Target is in my future! Thank you! Count me in!
sounds like fun. I don't have a blog but will check back regularly. Thank you for doing this.
Count me in! I'd love to get rid of my fabric scraps. My husband has been asking me what I'm keeping them for and why I don't make quilts for birthday and Christmas gifts. I figure if I get rid of scraps, I can buy more fabric!
Please count me in! Sounds like a lot of fun. Got your button and have my scraps gathered...the scraps aren't organized and pretty but they're together!
I'm totally in!
Scrap quilts are my very favorite type of quilt so let's go.
Yep, I'll certainly scrap along with you! Great idea...!!!!
count me in.
i will be joining. Love the bins.
I am so excited for this! I have been collecting scraps on my table... and they just keep growing.
I love the "scrappy" look and have my scraps organized in just about the same categories as you have done. Sure makes it easier. I also save leftovers of binding in a basket and sew them together for scrappy bindings. I look forward to your ideas.
Is it too late to join in. There is nothing that I love more than scraps. Currently all of my scraps are in a tote of their own.
I can't wait to see all that you do with scraps.
Jodi, I'd like to join in if I am able. I had a back injury 8 weeks ago, and I've not started sewing yet, but I am getting better. So I'd like to try. Thanks.
Sounds like fun!
I would like to follow along. I don't have a blog but I do have my scraps semi- organized. Thanks for the inspiration
I have scraps, I have many fat quarters, just need some inspiration. I look forward to learning how to make it work.
Oh I totally want to do this. It's right up my alley. But I have a lot of deadlines right now. Don't know if I can fully participate, but I want to see what people are up to and I have recently just organized all of my fabric so I'll try to participate as much as I can. Great idea Jodi!
Hi I dont have a blog but i would love to follow along This sounds like a lot of fun. I have tons of scraps just cant give them up.
I am sooo excited about this sew along. Scrappy quilts are my favorites and I have so many scraps and don't seem to get them sewn into quilts. You are rescuing me and my sewing room. I have blogged about the sew along and am ready to get sewing. Thanks so much.
I'm sorry I don't have a blog, but would love to join the scrap along so please count me in. Scrap quilts are my favourite.
I'm excited! it's been so long since I've devoted time to my sewing machine and I miss it so! This sounds like an excellent opportunity to get it humming again!
this is awesome! can't wait to play along! my biggest problem is how to store and sort them. should i cut them into strips, squares, etc? or just save them by color? or both? i love your bins, might have to hit target tomorrow...
Well I love the looks of what you've done with your scraps. It's hard to imagine mine looking like something I'd want to keep, but I'll give it a try.
I don't have an many scraps as you but I'm sure they would make into something useful. Please add me to the list! I can't wait.
I want to play along! I tried putting your button on my side bar but have not managed it yet. I will try again!
I'd love to participate and use up some of my scraps. Thanks for the party!
I want to sew along. This sounds like fun and I need a new project.

I'm ready to use my scraps and be inspired! I have a hard time with just random pieces! I want things to match!

Thanks
I'm going to try and keep up between work and the tax return I have to do by Nov 15th! Hope I'm not too slow!
I'm a poor blogless girl,but I'm in!!!
I don't have a blog but I will follow along for sure! I love your bins--will have to check out Target and see if they still have them because I have plenty of scraps to fill them up.

Oh, I really need this! Motivations to actually do something with all those scaps is always helpful.
if I win the retro scraps I'm in... would love those for a baby quilt I need to make for my future granddaughter....
I'd love to join but not sure that I can keep up. What happens if I fall off the wagon? Beside embarassing myself.
I just can't pass up the opportunity.....have a busy schedule right now, hope I can keep up...I have my stash together, became a follower but can't upload the button to my blog. I want to do it in my sidebar. Can you give me instructions?
Not sure how much sewing I'll get done, but I will be following/sewing along....grin. I put your button on my blog

I have posted your button on my blog. I may not be able to make a lot of things right now but I do make a lot of scrappy quilts when I have the time to sew.
Count me in. I can use all the help I can get.

Sorry no blog to add the project too.
Jodi, I'm in, love to sew with scraps. It just makes a girl feel good when she doesn't waste scraps. I'm putting your button on my blog.
I'd love to weed through my scraps, but are you sure it's possible to use them up as fast as they breed. I follow you on google reader.
I'm always up for a great challenge, and fresh ideas - count me IN. Thanks!
