Are you a No-Reply Blogger?
1. Suzie leaves a comment on Jodi's blog asking a question.
2. Jodi has all her comments sent directly to her email.
3. Jodi checks her email and reads Suzie's question. Jodi clicks reply. Shazam! Up pops Suzie's name but instead of her email address, it say's NO-REPLY. Argh!
4. Suzie doesn't have an Email associated with her blogger blog/blogger profile. Which means no one can reply to any of the comments or questions that she leaves. Boo Hoo.
You may not even know that you are a NO-REPLY blogger. No worries.
Follow these instructions to see if you are a NO-REPLY blogger:
Sign in to Blogger and bring up your Dashboard or Profile Page. Click on EDIT PROFILE.
See the third box down (SHOW MY EMAIL ADDRESS) there should be a check mark in it.
and
Scroll down; see the section titled IDENTITY. See the box labeled EMAIL ADDRESS. Your Email address should be in that box.
If there is no email in that box or if you don't have the Show My Email Address box checked. You are a NO-REPLY blogger.
#1 ARGUMENT often heard from NO-REPLY bloggers:
I DON'T want my personal email out there for the whole world to see....
Good News! You don't have to. You can set up a "generic" email address to be associated with your blog. (You just need to remember to check it often) (especially if you leave a comment or ask a question on another blog).
CLICK HERE to see my profile. Notice below my photo there is a box labeled CONTACT. Just below that you will see a link that say's EMAIL. If you click on this link, you can email me. AND it also means that I have an email associated with my blog,,, so when I leave a comment on another blog, that blogger can email me a reply. (does your profile show an EMAIL link? ....If not.... You're a NO-REPLY blogger)
And really the majority of "seasoned" bloggers will agree; It's good blogging etiquette to have an email associated with your blog. Especially if you're going to be blogging, commenting, asking questions, participating in Give Aways, etc. etc. etc.
Here's your assignment for the day. Check your PROFILE. Are you a NO-REPLY blogger?
Yes? Well I would LoVe it, if you either use the email you already have, or set up a new "generic" email and put it in your profile.
Use the instructions above to make sure your email is in your profile, and email me with any questions. EXCEPT! If you are a NO-REPLY. Please remember to put your email address in the body of your email.
P.S. A new email in your profile WILL NOT CHANGE THE EMAIL ADDRESS YOU USE TO SIGN IN TO YOUR BLOG.
EDITED: (1/19/2011)
If you do not have a blog, just be sure and leave your email address in your comment. If you're unsure if you are a No-Reply Blogger. Leave a comment with your email, here. Ask me if you're a No Reply. If you don't hear back from me in a few days. Most likely, you are a No-Reply.
It appears you have to have a blog in order to leave a comment. If you don't want to leave your email in your comments. Then I would suggest you create a dummy blog in blogger, and make sure your email is connected to your profile. I know a few readers who have done this. It's easy and will only take a few minutes. And if you ever decide to start blogging. Your blog will be ready to go. ;o)
I received this simply fantabulous email from one of my readers, Jenny:

I just had to write and say Thank You, Thank You, THANK YOU!!!
Thanks to your tutorial, I discovered I was, indeed, a no-reply blogger, and you helped me fix that. And the very next blog giveaway I entered, I WON!! I won an Accuquilt GO! cutter on Wednesday, and I'm doing the little happy dance while waiting for it to arrive.

Thanks for all of this wonderful info about the No reply blogger. I had no idea and that explains so much!
Are you busy getting ready for the holidays?
Hugs!
This is really helpful... would you mind if I wrote about it and linked to your instructions?......
Hugz
Thank you!!! I was a no-reply and had no idea!!! Appreciate the help!!
I didn't know about this until Ashley From Lil Blue Boo told me, and I added my email for easier replies. Now it makes so much sense. Even though I have a generic email for my blog, I've been letting them go to my regular email. However, I do have it set to where my generic email inbox will automatically be sent to my regular email inbox, so I only have to check one (if I decide to use them both again). You can even reply from email #2 that they sent it to even when signed into the main email (on gmail anyway). I'm going to link to your post soon to tell my readers about it, and I hope they make the change, too!
Thank you so much! I too had no clue I was a no reply blogger. All is fixed now thanks to your revelation and instructions.
Thank you! Now I believe I am a Reply-blogger :)
Okay...so I found out that I'm a noreply blogger but I have a .com and don't use blogger, I've got to ask my SIL who keeps up with my blog to figure out a way to change this!
Don't try to answer me! I'm no-reply!

I have the same situation as Robin above...I usually comment on Blogger blogs using "Name/URL" with my web address (where you can find my contact info), and a Blogger/blogspot user just emailed me to say that I showed up as "no-reply" when she clicked on my name. Hmmmm.
wow! thanks! I was a no-reply blogger. Thanks for fixing that!
Wow - thanks so much for sharing this!! I had no idea that I was a No-Reply blogger - but I have fixed the problem now. =)
Thanks!! I had no idea. Glad to be a reply-blogger now : )
Thank you, thank you, I am now a reply blogger.
Thanks Jodi (And Kim Wallus for steering me to this post!) I have always wondered what the deal was with these no-reply bloggers!?!

Holy cow. I had no idea!! I've read a few times about No Reply Bloggers but never actually went to check my own settings. What a dork I've been.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I do not believe that I am a no-reply blogger.
But, I have another question. Why is it that I can enter some blog giveaways by posting comments, and other blogs I cannot post comments so I cannot enter the giveaways? (Did that make sense?) Cluck, Cluck Sew comes to mind as does Red Pepper Quilts. I try to post a comment and simply cannot. It is driving me CRAZY!
Jodi am I no longer no-reply now? Just checking. THanks for this info!
Anna
I just found out the other day when a fellow blogger tried to reply to my comment and she could not reply to me, because it wasn't listed. I fixed it! Nice blog post!
I found you thru' Flicker. I am doing Project Quilting and was browsing thru' other photo groups. I really like your scrap quilting group!
Thanks again!
Thanks I had no idea.
not anymore ;) thank you
Thanks for the PSA! It makes me sad when people comment on my blog and I can't reply. Another thought on sharing your email address - I have a second email address which is for my blog, but all the emails are automatically forwarded to my regular address, and I just reply from there, but I can rest easy knowing I haven't put my regular email out on the Internet. And for what it's worth I have gotten almost no spam at the blog address.
Great Post! Thank you for addressing this no-reply thing. I have written replies to comments and just as I was ready to push the send button....noticed it was a no-reply comment! Frustrating in that I would like to reply and I have spent time writing a reply that will go nowhere!
Deb
Let's try this again! Am I a no-replier?
Thanks!

So I tried to fix it. I am so thankful for your help...am I still a no reply blogger?
Thank you, thank you for this!! I did everything you suggeste. My question is how do I reply to peoples comments on my blog? I don't want them to think I don't appreciate them, but am not sure how to reply to them?
Kiera
Button works great!
Deb
Thanks so much! I am new to blogging and never would of figured this out!
Appreciate this post...new to the blog world and had no idea that I was a no reply blogger. Thanks!
thank you! I had no idea that I was a no-reply blogger, when indeed, I was! It's fixed now, so I'm all ready to converse with the world. Thanks again! -diane

All the best,

hey jodi! love this post. I may just have to add this to one of my posts. I love being about to reply to people and when I can't it makes it so frustrating!
Thank you! I didn't even know that I was a NO Reply blogger lol. Now it's fixed, thanks love!
thank you for your post! would you mind if i reposted it with a link to you?

This is fabulous! I posted a link to this article in my post today. Thanks for explaining it so clearly!
Now the flip side of this, and the reason I have chosen (as many have) to purposely be a no reply blogger is to keep blogging people on the blog. Email is more personal, meant I think for people you know. And who needs or wants to maintain multiple accounts. I've taken time to visit, read, and comment on person 1's blog, I would prefer they do the same...take time to read, comment on my blog and then leave their answer if in fact there is one. Reciprocal visits, blog traffic etc. Personal I get irritated when people take the easy short cut and email you instead of making a return blog visit.
I believe most bloggers want the blog traffic, enjoy blog comments, otherwise...what's the point. You blog, take time to make the blog. You have no way of knowing people are reading it if they don't leave comments, and you have a full email box that you probably are unaware of who they are. ID's on blogs are typically different then names people use in their emails. So, you receive an email out of context and don't know what they're talking about, who they are, or why they're emailing you.
Always 2 sides to these things.
I encourage everyone to visit, read, and comment on the blog. Blog interaction is the name of the game.
This is very helpful and I was led here by another blogger who told me the my email was "no reply" but funny thing is, all my ducks are in a row as far as your instructions go. So I'm confused. but I can tell you this, I typically don't use the Google identity, I use the Name/URL if that option is available. Could that be the issue? If so, can you lead me in the right direction?
Thank you so much :)
Cindi
Great explanation! Would it be alright if I linked up this post to my blog? Your instructions are very well written. Why reinvent the wheel, right? Thank you! :)
Thank you! I learned a lot and am no longer a no reply blogger! Www.craizeecorner.blogspot.com
I think I fixed it. Can you try again?
this is a great post! i'm planning on a giveaway soon (i'm almost at 400 posts!), and i'd love to be able to link to this in my post. a few people have asked if you'd be okay with that - maybe you've been e-mailing your responses to them!
Ive recently become a blogger and Just checking to see if I'm a no reply blogger?
Thank You!! I learned about this from my sis, Amber for A Little Bit Biased. I'm going to put your link up on my blog. :)
Thank you!!! Love this and will be linking it to my blog too!
I'm trying to figure this out!
I'm still trying to figure out whether I'm a No-Reply or not
Am I a no blogger. I don't know since I can't seem to get any answer.
Where do you "sign in to Blogger"? I can't get by the first step.
Thank u for posting this no wonder I dont ever win anything!!! I had my blog set with my email but will u plz b so kind and test me to make sure?
Thank u again
Just fixed this, thank you!
And what if someone blogs on their own personal url and is not on a blogger account? I sure would like to know.
Oh dear! I was guilty.
am I a no reply?
really helpful post! i agonize over not being able to reply to comments too! grabbing the button.
Jodi, Is it fixed now? I saw I posted a comment here back in February to see if it was fixed, now I'll try again. IT seems not everyone gives the option of Name/URL so I need to have my blogger account set correctly.
Thank you so much for this! I thought I knew a bit about this blogging thing and apparently I don't. I'm glad I found your blog! Thanks again!
Thanks for the info. At least I now know if someone wants to reply, they can.
Lea
I might just link to this info on my blogg if you do not mind ;o))
Thanks for explaining !!
Thanks for the heads up.
Thanks for this tutorial - I'm linking to it from my blog! Thanks!
Great Information thank you for posting. However, i do still have a bit of a problem I followed all the steps and I am still a noreply comment blogger. If you cannot reply to this comment my e-mail is saskriver(at)hotmail(dot)com
thanks
I am set up this way but lately people are telling me I am still showing up as a no reply blogger...any other ideas?
I wish I had seen this yesterday. It would have saved me a lot of time trying to figure out how to not be a no comment blogger lol.
I agree with Sandy. I go back & forth on the No Reply. We all like comments on our blogs, and except for people I really know, or in cases where I have a strong opinion (like now), I often comment to acknowledge the blogger's post. That is mainly on blogs hosting an event meant to bring visitors to other blogs. Commenting takes time and effort; it's a lot easier to just look at the entry post and go on to the next one. So it's a bit frustrating to make the effort and get an email reply instead of a return comment.
Hi Jodi.
Thanks a lot.
All this while, I was in the dark. I had no idea what the No Reply Blogger is. And, most of my blogger friends over here don't know about this, too.
Would you mind if I alert my friends and link it to your instructions.
Thanks, Jodi.
Regards,
Sophyta
Thank you!!! I´ll take the button and the Link to this post to my blog, ist great and very well written!!!
hugs
Bente
thank you! I was a no-reply blogger too!!!! :O( and...i didn't know this!
ok I did it but...in what way I can create a second email? I'm totally clueless...
Hello! Thank you for a great post! I would have been so happy to find this much earlier but better later and never.
After a lot discussion I thought that I'm no-reply because I have wordpress. But I have also blogger account and gmail so I went to see again my profile and I'm hoping that perhaps I'm no longer no-reply thank to you!
If you have time to answer I' curious to know what is 'Audio Clip URL' in that same profile?
Sunny wishes from Greece! Teje
It seems like you've made a lot olf p;eople very happy! I don't mind no-reply commenters unless I forget to check the address box and write a complete reply before clicking on 'send' and finding out that I've wasted my time. Cherrie
This is really helpful...
I must check this.
Great information - hoping I am good to go!
Does this one work?
Thank you for posting the "no blogger". Now I know why some people can't post a comment on my blog (I hope that's the reason) :)
Thanks Jodi,
I suppose for me it's a case of better late than never!
Thankyou for your very useful post!
Thanks for the heads-up! I'm a new blogger, so it's good to get this straightened out sooner, rather than later!
HI! I have been getting a ton of noreplybloggers leaving me questions or comments. I googled how to fix that problem, cause I couldn't remember how I became a 'Replyblogger' and I found your post. I wanted to let you know you did a great job on instructing us in blog land on how to fix that. I linked this tutorial up to my blog. I hope that's OK with you? If it's not, please let me know and I will remove it! Thank you!
Thanks! Just fixed it!
Great post! I checked mine to discover I had it set to an email address I don't use! Thanks :)
Interesting post and you've convinced me to be a reply blogger. I can see this post goes back to last year, and raises a further question, for a person new to blogging - what is the etiquette on commenting on older posts I wonder?
Thanks for the tip! I just answered abunch of blog comments via email and realized they were all no reply bloggers!
Thank you! I realized I was a no-reply blogger, but now it is fixed!
Yes, I am a no-reply blogger, on purpose.
When someone leaves a comment on my blog, I think the least I can do is to go visit their blog, and leave a comment.
I do make sure, however that anyone can answer any questions I have asked, by clicking on the email link I provide at the top of my blog.
The only problem I have is when someone has no blog for me to go to, and no email either.
Jane
Thanks for having this wonderful post. I grabbed your button thanks.
Like so many others, I was unwittingly a NO REPLY blogger but thanks to your very detailed info and instructions I am now in the REPLY zone.
Just got sent your link from The Barefoot Seamstress and have changed myself (I hope) to be a reply blogger with an accessible email! :) Thanks for the great instructions and information!
Just found this and I am no longer a no-reply blogger. Thank you!
Wow had no idea about this at all. I'm glad I clicked on the button and you had this handy instruction guide
Just found this... I am no longer a No-Reply blogger! Thanks for the tip!
Thanks for letting me know i was a no reply blogger! I had an e-mail address listed but I hadn't marked that I wanted it displayed. Let me know if I am still a no-reply blogger! :D
Thank you for sharing this! Just posted on my facebook....it's such a bummer when you go to reply to a question or tell someone they won your giveaway and you can't reach them.
ive done all these things and i am still a no@blogger.com
pleaseeee help i could cry,
i think its something to do with my template but caz ive just changed it, please help
I had NO IDEA I was a NO REPLY blogger. Thanks so much for this!
Here's one problem with this: " Then I would suggest you create a dummy blog in blogger, and make sure your email is connected to your profile."
Apologies if someone has already said so, as I've not skimmed down through all the comments, but the problem here is that I HAVE a blog, but it's on Wordpress, and I don't want a dummy blog because then no one would ever click the link to my actual blog. (I'm not sure it's WORTH checking out my actual blog 9 days in 10 (:D) but the day might come when I start to use it more!)
This is only a solution if blogger were to get on board with it, but the best option for the rest of us non-blogger blog-writers would be for blogger to require an email address attached to all OpenID identities. Wordpress requires it, but keeps it hidden (so I can access the addresses of people who comment on my blog, but nobody else could). Of course, Wordpress has its own problems with comments - I can make nested comments, for instance, but it doesn't email a comment reply notification to the person who left the original comment, unless that person also subscribes to the comments, and then they'd get an email every time ANYONE comments on the page. Which is pretty stupid, I think you should be able to subscribe to your own thread, but nothing else, if that makes sense.
I don't know, it'd be nice if some of these different platforms could play together just a little more nicely. (I know there's no incentive for them to do so - they all want my 'business' - but still.)
(Bah. I meant to include my email address in my last comment but forgot - clumsy.chord(at)gmail.com - but I do want to emphasize that my comment is No Reply Necessary in any case! It looks like you're already getting a lot of traffic on this entry, so I have no expectations :D)
thank you for this simple explanation. I actually found it harder to find my profile page.
i cant seem to find the stuff you are talking about... when i go to edit profile, it brings to me to my google+ account...
Hi there…I'm a no-reply blogger, but not by choice. Since linking my blogger account to my google+ profile instead of using the old profile, I do not have the option to change this. Frustrating, but I don't have a workaround! :(
Thank you for letting us use your no-reply button. I have just added this to my blog, because I encountered some-one who was a no-reply, and they wanted to know how to sort it. So I have directed them to you!
And grabbed the button so I don't lose it. Thanks again!
Am I a no reply? Cause I tried to follow your instructions to my profile and it keeps sending me to my Google+ page >.>
Great post!

No idea if I'm a No Reply Blogger. Not sure what that means really....I don't have a Blog......but belong to the Google Acct thing........
Good information, will work on some changes!
Thanks for this. Easy to understand and very clear.I had no idea I was a no-reply blogger until recently.
I don't think I am a noreply blogger? I have a google account attached, right?
slmcgann@verizon.net
Thanks so much for this information. It is very clear and easy to understand. Very useful :)
thank you this helped me a lot!
I was a no-reply and I didn't know it!
This is one of my hugest pet peeves about commenters. I hate it so much when people don't give me a way to respond to them! This is super helpful information, and I hope you don't mind that I put this linked button in my sidebar for people to reference. I want to encourage all of my readers to stop being no-replies!
Gah, thank you SO much for this button! Hopefully, it will help my blog followers see the light :D
Thanks for the clear explanation -- I had no idea I was a no-reply blogger until PlumandJune went to the trouble of commenting on my blog to let me know.
I've altered my Blogger profile, but since I'm on wordpress, I usually comment using OpenID. I'm unsure whether I'm still a no-reply blogger now...
Thanks for the info. I went through all your steps and am still showing up as a noreply blogger in Google reader, rather than my name showing up, and have been unable to figure out how to get a photo to show up on my post in the dashboard. Any idea on what I can do to fix that?
I've just opened a blog and didn't know it remained as a "No-reply" blog until you told me. Thanks a lot for the tips.
Thanks so much for this post! It is one of my biggest pet peeves when I receive a comment via email and want to reply to the individual and I am unable to because they are a no-reply blogger!
I think I fixed it. Can you see my email now?
slmcgann@verizon.net
I can't seem to do this as I have a Google Plus profile linked to my blog :(

thanks!

I was accused of being one of these, but I had no idea what she was talking about. I fixed it! Thanks for the info.
I'm putting a link to this post in my post today. Thanks for spelling it out so well.
just wondering if I am a no reply blogger! I have a google account and use wordpress!
I've noticed that if you link your blog to your G+ account, you become a no-reply blogger and there's nothing you can do about it! :(
Hi Girl! I'm pretty new to being a 'No Reply' reformer myself.. I honestly didn't even know I had it set that way.
Found you via your cute little No Reply button on another blog and I wanted to check with you to see if you'd be interested in doing a guest post of a similar tutorial on 'No-Reply' on At Home Take 2. All the link backs would of course go to your blog.
Let me know if you're interested- I absolutely love this piece! And, if you have time I'd love for you to stop by the Weekend Blog Walk and join in our blog hopping fun.

I checked, mine was fine. I appreciate your instructions.

Do you have any suggestions for people who use Google +? Thanks! tulip@trueaimeducation.com
I am a no-reply blogger no more! Thank you for sharing this informative tutorial!
Thank you! Thank you! -Marci @ Stone Cottage Adventures
Thank you! Didn't realize that I was a No-Reply Blogger and the situation has been corrected!
Love this! Having no-reply comments really sucks because then I can't interact with someone who took the time to read and comment.
Hi! I tried these steps a lot of times, but I'm still a noreply@blogger. :( What should I do?
i constantly refer people to this! just posted about it and linked back to this post. thanks so much for sharing! xx

Great post! I checked and (pretty sure) I am not a no reply blogger! Maybe you can answer this sorta related question for me - I've hosted one blog giveaway (big time I know!). How do I contact the winner based on simply their comment in blogger without their email? Is this a no reply blogger? I'm confused.
Great post. I am just going to add my generic email address there. Thanks
Oh My I did NOT realize I was a No-Reply Blogger! I am proud to say I just fixed that now! Thanks for the great guide.

It's not always as simple as checking your email. I was singing the no-reply-blogger blues since July 2012 and tried all the remedies mentioned. My issue was with feedburner and some of my settings. So if others were like me, have them check their settings with feedburner. I corrected 3 blogs that had haunted me for months. Now I am out of the black hole and can blog happily once again. :-)
I am so lost and computer illiterate, apparently. I was referred to this site by a fellow Blogger, as she told me that I am a NO REPLY blogger; however, I am completely lost at the directions above. I don't see a SHOW MY E-MAIL ADDRESS [to even see if there's a check on it] on my profile.
I'm so sorry!
I'm just lost. Help, please!! :/

I guess I was a no reply blogger, too. I'll try to fix that now...
I think I WAS a no-reply blogger, but thanks to your instructions, I've fixed it. Thanks!
This is awesome...thank you for posting this!
Thanks, Jodi! I have created a post about this on my own blog, crediting you and your blog, with links. I hope that's OK.
This is something that is so easy to do, but so hard to describe to people. It will help many of my readers, I'm sure ... so thanks again.
OMG, where have you been?! I just saw the button on Jessi's blog (one crafty mama) and came straight here. This has been a pet peeve of mine from the beginning and I can't thank you enough for this!!
The comments people make on my blog also come in to me via my gmail inbox. When I first started, for THREE MONTHS I kindly responded to every single comment, thanking people. (I was SO appreciative - and still am.) I don't know what made me notice one day that the email addresses were mostly "no-reply." The blood still rushes to my head when I think about it.
I haven't read your whole blog and will go back and do that. I got so excited I had to stop and come thank you. You may have already covered this, but why on each would gmail not stop "no reply" mails from being sent in the first place??! That's a whole nother issue, I know, but it would have saved me a bunch of wasted time. I've written to them about it.
So in all that, geez, it never occurred to me that I might be a no-reply (horrors!) so I went and checked. Phew, I am not a "no reply." In the year and a butt that I have been blogging just about every day, no one has EVER abused my email address and I get a lot comments on my posts. (I saw April's comment of concern about that.)
Thank you again, Jodi! I will be passing this on to my followers and displaying your button!! Mwah! Darnell (djkardkreations)
Hi I've been trying to figure this out for days and have been pulling my hair out. I used your tutorial but still unsure if I'm a no reply blogger.
