Framed Roses and Hearts

I've seen some great framed hearts floating around in Bloggy Land.

Like this one from THE IDEA ROOM;
and this one from BRASSY APPLE;
and this one from ELLE DECOR;Well the other day I was in the $1 Dollar Store lookin around and I spotted these
Rose Scented Soap Petals. In Red and in White.

Rose Scented Soap Petals

{note: trust me when I say....do NOT use them as Soap Petals! Oh my. It took me probably 10 minutes to get that stuff off my hands and then another 10 minutes to get it off my bathroom sink. Horrible! They turn into a reddish pink gluey mess!}

I had a little idea.

I grabbed a little frame I had laying around at home {I think this one came from Ikea} A piece of Scrapbooking Paper and some adhesive.

I took the glass and backing out of the frame. Painted the inside of the frame white to match the outside.

Used my adhesive to secure the scrapbook paper to the back of the frame.

And then I attempted to make a heart inside the frame from the rose buds. It just wasn't looking right.

So I grabbed the lid to the container, hot glued the rose buds to the inside of the lid, and then hot glued the lid to the inside of the frame. You can see the plastic lid close up, but from a distance it's not noticeable.

So easy and inexpensive to make. And it's lookin pretty darn cute on one of our bookshelves.

Do you not love the Pleasant Home in scrabble letters!? Those were a Christmas gift from a special friend and I LOVE them!

So then that got me thinking. How bout a little Specimen Art?

I took out the glass of another old frame. Secured another piece of scrapbooking paper to the backing of the frame. Secured the backing to the inside of the frame with the little clippies already in the frame.

Then hot glued the Rose Scented Soap Petals in rows of 4 across and 4 down.

Way fun, huh!

And looky how cute they look together on the book shelves.

Just a little somethin to brighten up the house for Valentines Day. And the specimen art I can leave up all year round. Yay me!

Can I just say how thankful I am to have found your blog? I have no idea how I came across it, but I feel like God blessed me by doing so. Your style of creativity is right up my alley. I love this look. It's so martha stewarty. Did you get these rose petals at the Dollar Tree? I haven't seen them yet? I am at the dollar tree at least once a week. Also, I'd love to see pictures of the inside of your home. From what I've seen, you are quite the decorator.

PS. I saw your disclosure when reading about you and your sweet family. I am asking permission to use one or two of your photos for the heart lollipops. I made them today and they came out cute. I took my own photos, but my granite clashes with them. I liked your idea to use WHITE cups etc... but I don't have many white things... so may I use one or two of your photos in my blog? Also, where did you get those white roses on this post?

It looks like you are all ready for Valentines Day! Great decoration ideas. And I guess we shouldn't expect too much from the dollar store.

Super cute! Do they have the added bonus of smelling good? Or do they smell like they wash?

It's me again. I'm stalking your blog. I just found the rose soaps at the dollar tree. I had to get on my hands and knees to find them. LOL! I found them in pink, white, and red. I bought all three. I am so excited to try this art and craft. The only issue is I need frames and paper. That's where the big buck will come in, but hey, at least it's not $49 like the one on etsy.com I plan to keep one for myself and then go ahead and buy one for my son's teacher and one for my friends.

These look awesome!
as my hubby always says "there's a reason it was just a buck!"
how's that for a pessimist, eh?
Now look what you made for just a buck!

Too cute! I like simple and inexpensive. Does the soap smell like roses or smell like soap?
