Wow,Great looking book.
I must admit I prefer it nice and quiet. Or as quiet as it can be with 2 boys 11 & 12 while on School holidays.
I guess I just enjoy the piece and quite and get lost in my sewing.

:-)

This book sounds wonderful, and I love colour (crossing fingers and toes!).
I sew mainly in peace and quite, but sometimes turn up the radio, one of our channel is per 80's music! takes you back to your youth....Kx

I like sewing in peace and quiet. I have far too much noise in the rest of my life.

Jess said...

I watch TV while I am sewing, or at least have it on for background noise. I love to multitask and this is one way I do it.

Nell said...

I have three very noisy little ones and a husband who plays rock guitar so my choice would be peace and quiet every time LOL

Suzan said...

I almost always put on a movie when I am sewing. I don't really watch - I think it is more for just some sort of "company" while I am in the studio. I have thought about an audio book but know I would get caught up in the story and end up sewing my fingers together!

Looks like a great book. I am gathering my scraps, ironing and sorting. I am finally ready to make a scrap quilt!

Trudi said...

A fantastic book! I sew in complete silence in my studio, I find I am more focused this way, though when I am stitching in the house I have the tv on for company - wierd I know :)

Whim Of Iron said...

I have tons of scraps. When I quilt, I listen to Audio books that I get through various Libraries. I have 5 library cards, and use them all. Just this week, I listened to, "You Know When The Men Are Gone", by Siobhan Fallon. It was an excellent read. I prefer to work alone, when no one is around, so I can focus.

Judy said...

The book looks so inspiring! I need music playing either on my computer or ipod. I can turn the music on as loud as I want and no one others me.

kt said...

Looks like a great book--thanks for the chance to win! I like to sew in peace--with 3 kids and a dog, I don't get much peace at other times, and sewing is my escape!

It depends on my mood - either its quiet or music from my iPhone. i have a great selection in there so it will keep me company in my craft room.

Looks like a fun book! Sometimes I sew with the TV on - I listen to music or news - other times I love the quiet. Either way, I'm happy to be sewing! Thanks for the giveway.

I love Emily Cier's patterns! For me, it depends what I am sewing - if it is string piecing or the like, I'll put a DVD on my laptop. If it's a bit more demanding, I tend to listen to the radio. Thanks for the chance!

The Twisted Sister said...

Great book! I like the radio in the background.

Béa said...

I like sewing in peace and quiet, thanks for the chance to win this book full of scraps & colours !

Barbara said...

Emily Cier is one of my quilting heroines with her bright clean designs and piecing innovation.

If I am piecing, I like classical music playing softly in the background. If I am quilting, I usually listen to a more vibrant jazz. If I am hand sewing on the final side of the binding, I play a season of some TV show on my laptop to break the monotony of this action.

Thanks for hosting the give-away.

Pat said...

Love to play music, mostly smooth jazz. Looks like a fun book, thanks!

Linda said...

If I'm engrossed in a project where I have to thing - do math! - I appreciate silence. But when I'm free-motion quilting, I love to listen to a book on my IPod. It's a great way to keep up with new books while accomplishing something. I highly recommend listening to "The Help," even if you've read the print version. The reader makes the characters come to life! Thanks for the chance to win your giveaway. It looks like a wonderful book.

StitchinByTheLake said...

If I'm doing something simple I listen to a book - I love being able to do that. But if it's complicated then everything is off and I need complete quiet. I don't even want to hear the refrigerator hum. :) blessings, marlene

Larissa said...

Lol! I'm the same, though I do tend toward the later ... some music on in the background, or a good movie/tvondvd on the tv or computer going for background noise. I'm also lately listening to a lot of podcasts ... whether spiritual or motivational ... and I am also at the beginning of listening to an audio book on Job (biblical figure).
Hugs!

I like ti have the TV on. I record General Hospitals on DVR and watch them as I sew. The book sounds great!!! This seems to be the year of scrappy.

West Michigan Quilter said...

I have to have the TV on when i quilt. It keeps me company, makes me laugh (when I watch I Love Lucy), and always lets me know when it's going to snow so I can plan on a sew day!

thanks for the giveaway.
i have seen that book making it's way around blog-land and it looks cool....

anyhoooo...
i listen to pandora on my phone while i sew. usually coldplay radio. but every now and then, i flip over to the beastie boys station, and chuckle at the juxtaposition of listening to old school rap while making quilts.

Well most times I like the quiet of the birds outside or the wind blowing etc. But then I have a moment or two that I like to listen to music and it has to be upbeat. Like for me it would be the 70's because it just makes anything possible.......The book looks wonderful and since I just started the scrappy look it would be a great prize. Thanks so much, have a great day!

Would love to win this terrific book. I prefer peace & quiet when I'm sewing though there's usually some noise in the house unless my husband's off somewhere. Thanks for the chance to win.

It pends on where I am @. Lately, I've been taking it to the hospital while I wait w/ my kids in the waiting room. We homeschool, so, I sit in the bay window soaking in the rays and take advantage of the bright light while the kids are working. Oh, I should mention, this is handsewing before binding.

beth lehman said...

This book is on my list....!! It looks great. I like sewing in either peace and quiet or I'll listen to something on pandora - an Alison Krauss station or a Wailin Jennys station.

I need this book, the SCRAP REPUBLIC is where I live! I listen to music, at increased volume, while I stitch.

Sarah said...

ALWAYS some kind of sound-nowadays it's the radio (woo-rock music!) because the only tv I was able to sew with was repeats of shows. Couldn't watch Doctor Who, etc because I'd never run the machine :)

Suburban Stitcher said...

I'd love to win this one! I love peace and quiet...probably because it's hard to come by in my house of 2 boys :) Having my own sewing room does help...if I'd ever find the time to be in there!

Tanya said...

Wow, what vibrant projects! Love them. I love to sew in solitude and quiet. I have two very active and loud little boys, so when they're in bed and I finally have a few moments to spend in my sewing room, a little silence is soothing. Sometimes though, if my husband is running on the treadmill in the next room, a little music helps disguise the noise -- especially Christmas carols! I listen to them all year long.

Kristen and Ryan said...

when we moved into our new house I was so excited to have a craft room....but I never use it! Istill being the sewing machine to my main room so I can watch tv!

This looks like a fantastic book . I like to quilt in peace and quiet ,rarely have music playing. Thanks for the chance.

Selga_jo said...

If my sewing project is an original design, I hear nothing but my muse's direction and all other sound is a disruption. When sewing something "other", and sewing for the first time, I listen to my Itunes "Easy Listening" playlist. If sewing on the down-low, definitely the television. It all depends on the composition and my mood.

Brenda said...

I like peace and quiet when I am sewing but love to listen/watch a movie while I am cutting and trimming. Quite a mixed bag.

Irina said...

I normally do it in peace and quiet... I'm so concentrated on what I'm doing and get so immersed that I don't think I'd realize any noise in the background!

While my husband is still asleep, I try to sew very quietly (he works 2nd shift). But, when he's at work, I usually have either the TV on or music. I like quiet in the morning, but if it's too quiet at night, my imagination runs a little too wild with those odd house sounds!

Char said...

Oh WOW...I am looking forward to a win!!! But I love peace and quiet in my room while sewing...even with the radio on, it is on low but mostly I can think or just *go away* from it all with no noise but me.....

I always quilt with the noise of the television in the background. The racket helps me to pace myself. Warm days are best for quilting outside in my garage workshop.(I just love the warmth and sunshine) Of all the things that I have with quilting, I do not have a book of quilts, just magazines.

Hi, I like to have a look at my favorite soap operas on TV while I'm sewing.... But when it's difficult and I must think what to do next: silence is neccessary!!!

If I am free motion quilting or a new pattern which requires concentration, then I need quiet. Other than that, I just need more light as I've gotten older. I have lots of scraps, so this book would be a joy.

"Volume" does look good. Turns it up to 11 just as I do. I crank Pandora loud some days and some days I have on the METV channel with the TV shows I grew up with playing - Perry Mason, Cannon, Hawaii 5-0, etc.

Wow!! This book looks amazing! What a wonderful giveaway!

I tend to like to sew in the quiet also. Though that may change once I get speakers for my ipod! Sometimes I have the tv on in the background, but just for sound. Most often though, it is quiet...with a kitty curled up next to me. (I think the machine soothes her.)

fun book - I am recently widowed and quiet weighs heavily so I have my ipod blasting away - even find myself singing along with the mamas and papas. Have considered books on tape but still enjoy reading the real things so far.

I'm a peace and quiet kind of gal. But some days, I like to have the classical station on the radio playing softly. What a wonderful book. Thanks for the colourful giveaway.

This book looks delicious. There are days when I love the peace and quiet and days when I want background noise. I find that I watch the clock more when I have no noise. My favorite background noise is the grandkids either playing on the floor with their sewing kit or playing on one of the machines making "presents' for their mom. Usually just a scrap piece of fabric with decorative stitches but it's the though that counts. AND I figure I should train them early to use up those scraps.

I have to have some noise in the background, and usually it is the TV and I don't care what is on, the silence drives me a little nuts, I need a bit of noise!

It depends my mood - sometimes while I'm cutting out everything I watch something on Hulu, but when I'm sewing I mostly like it quiet (because silence makes me happy when the kiddos are sleeping).

I enjoy the peace of my sewing room to cut out and machine sew with a classical music radio station ClassicFM playing in the background. I hand quilt all of my quilts, often again with music playing or whilst watching TV with my husband.
And I LOVE Scrap quilts! This book is fabulous.

Thank you for the Scrap Republic book review and the giveaway. Looks like a fantastic book. Love the color. I usually like to have a good mystery or movie going in the background. I also enjoy interesting history programs.

I like peace and quiet when I am at the sewing machine. Usually I have soft music playing in the background for a CD

I tend to watch RIO, my two year old loves the movie! She is always close by playing with Lego's or my scraps.

Peace and quiet is good, but I also enjoy a netflix movie playing in the background.

I would LOVE a copy of this book since color is very important to me. Whenever I sew I always watch and listen to reruns of "I Love Lucy"!! I never tire of watching her and it keeps me laughing while sewing. What more can you ask for?

I love Scrappy quilts, so this would be the best prize for me!! I like to have background noise going while I cratf, but I would rather have it be something that I have seen before. I can follow along without watching!

What a great book! I mostly sew with some sort of background noise, usually the TV on, but don't actually catch very much.

I mostly sew with the tv on in the background, I catch up with a lot of things I've saved on sky+ and sometimes I play music :)

The book looks great, thanks for the chance to win one :)

Peace and quiet? What's that? As a mother of 5 (I homeschool too) that doesn't happen too often. My "sewing music" is usually the fun noises kids make.

tpott said...

Like you, I sometimes like quiet. Other times I like to have the T. V. tuned to the biography channel. As long as I'm sewing I'm happy. ;->

I definitely prefer peace and quiet, but sometimes I like to listen to Christian music or the bible on iTunes...

Love the book have been eyeballing this one for a while now :)

That book looks fabulous!
I mostly like to sew in peace and quiet. Maybe because I have 5 kids making a lot of noise all the time. When they are in bed I bask in the quiet. :-)

I always have my dvd's going.....usually it's Murder She Wrote or Columbo.....I've seen them all thousand times, and still love them. Sometimes I'll put on one of my Jane Austen movies, but they tend to suck me in more, and I end up watching instead of stitching! lol

I'm in love too, the book looks stunning!!!!!. When I'm sewing I always have my stereo on..., it's 80's music, I couldn't live without it, lol

I need to be jammin' while I'm sewing. The hubs thinks it's hilarious when he walks in my sewing room and I'm bee-boppin' while ironing or cutting fabric. If he only knew what happened when he wasn't home. :) If I'm having a sewing marathon, I like to listen to a book on CD. This helps me keep up with my reading list while being productive. That, my friends, is multi-tasking! The photography alone makes my want to own this book. Gorgeous color!

I like to sew with it quiet...not silent, though. My favorite is to hear the kids in the backyard playing while I sew.

Kathie said...

I like it to be quiet. Since I'm relatively new to sewing, I need to concentrate and read and then re-read the directions!

Love scrap quilts! I defnitely sew with noise...my favorite DVD is Les Mis 25th reunion concert. 3 hours of glorious sewing and singing.

Thanks for the chance.

Most of the time I prefer to sew in peace and quiet. However, when I'm in need of some motivation putting on a movie really helps to keep me focused and passes the time!

I like to sew/quilt in peace and quiet, my kids provide background noise the rest of the time :)

I like peace and quiet, if my hockey team is playing I will turn on the radio and listen to the play by play. Thanks for such a great giveaway.

It really depends on my mood and if I am alone. Most of the time I like a movie or something running in the background...something that I've seen a million times.
If I am with friends...a little music and a lot of chatter!!

I love color and this book looks so cool. I am getting more and more scraps and would love to use them up. I like to sew with noise in the background. Usually I have a movie or TV show playing while I sew. I can't do quiet not having raised 4 children!
