Scrappy Update, Tiger Tape, and another Entry!

My Scraptacular Picnic Quilt from Nanette's tutorial is almost done!

Introducing the top to my 2011 Scrappy Quilt!
Picnic Quilt
{every year I make a quilt with the previous years scraps. I now have a 2008 & 2009 completed and my 2011 is almost finished... my 2010 is still a work in progress.. click on the year to see each quilt}

Picnic Quilt

I need to find a backing {crossing my fingers it can come from my stash}..
Picnic Quilt

And it will be ready to be quilted! I can't wait until it's done. I am totally in love with it.

My next Scrappy Project is the Scrappy Dresden from Lurline's Tutorial. It's finished and enjoying it's new home on my dining room buffet.
Scrappy Dresden Table Topper

I tried a great "new 2 me" product on this project... It's called Tiger Tape...

Great Notion
Have you heard of it? Have you tried it?

The tape is used as a guide for evenly spaced hand quilted stitches.. It's reusable and comes in different sizes for different stitch widths. It's very cool.

So I cut a few small pieces and stuck them along my Dresden points and just followed the lines on the tape. Nearly perfect quilted stitches...
Scrappy Dresden Table Topper

What great results... Don't you think? You can read more about it HERE and if you'd like to purchase some, you can do so HERE.
Scrappy Dresden Table Topper

Beverly of Tiger Tape graciously sent a package along to include in the Grand Prize Give Away at the end of the month! Thanks Beverly!

How bout another entry to the Grand Prize Drawing!?!

Leave a comment on this post... Answer the following question:

Do you have a Favorite Season?

I love all seasons. In fact I LOVE a year that has a bit of everything in it. I have been wishing and wishing for lots and lots of snow this week... But I have to say,,,Summer is my absolute favorite time of year.

I'll be back tomorrow with the Tutorial for the little Scrappy Square Mug Mats! I decided they should be called mats because their smaller than what I usually make for a {mug} rug.. :)

Adore your little mats! And I am a summer girl too - what can be nicer than sweet warm summer evenings?

Your scrappy dresden is gorgeous ... I'm in love with all the different blues you've used in this ... and that quilt top looks fantastic!!! Definitely going to make me one of those quilts one of these days!!
Living in Darwin, Australia, we experience only two 'seasons' ... the humid 'wet' season (current) and the dry season (mid-year) ... and hands-down I LOVE our wet season - the storms are just glorious!! ... If I had to choose one from the traditional four seasons, I would have to say either the end of spring (warmer weather ... I despise the cold!) or summer.

Minnie said...

I love how good the colours of the dresden work together. My favourite time of year is Autumn with all the browns and the air is so fresh. x

The Dresden is beautiful.

Summer is nice but I love Fall. The different colors on all the trees, pants and sweaters without jackets and schedules beginning again.

Love your quilts! My favorite season is whatever season we are in, or approaching--right now I would say winter--here's hoping we get some snow--I love it--as long as I don't have to drive in it! Love how pretty it makes everything look, love how much fun the kids have in it (and me too!), I even like shoveling it (within reason--last year was a bit much with roofs collapsing under the weight of it!)

Brenda said...

Love both your scrappy quilt and the dresden plate topper. My favorite season is fall. I love the cooler temperature and the brightly colored leaves.

Fabulous idea to use your scraps and make a quilt each year. Don't know anyone else who is doing that. My favorite season is usually the one we are in. I love the differences in each season. Spring and Autumn tend to be my most favorite because of the colors outdoors. I love color!

Have a great day!

Christi said...

I think that my favorite season is late Spring! I love to plant flowers and open my windows!! The bad part is that my quilting seems to slow down during that time.

paige said...

I love all of the seasons and I enjoy living in a climate where we have 4 real and different seasons. But, to pick one favorite, I have to go with fall - college football, crisp evenings, warm sun, cool breezes, colorful leaves, Halloween, Thanksgiving, my birthday, pumpkin foods, and lots of my favorite colors, orange and brown.

Nancy said...

I love your quilt, such happy colors. The snowman is cute and love the mats too. My favorite season is, hmmmm, spring, I think. Really something good about all of them.

I love the quilts, so much fun and so inspiring.
As for my favorite season, I really had to think about it. Living in Wisconsin we get good doses of all four, and I enjoy them all, but I must pick fall for my favorite. The autumn festivals, the leaves turning colors, the crisp smell in the air, the apple picking and pumpkin carving, the Halloween decorating . . . I could go on and on. Yes, fall is my choice!

Spring is my favorite season, everyting is starting to grow and green up and warm up again! Love the dresden pattern, something to try in the future for me!

Kim said...

Your quilt is turning out adorable! I just really love that color combo! I finally have enough of the larger squares cut--but still need about 200 of the smaller ones!

The tiger tape looks neat! I will have to try that. I love how your scrappy dresden turned out.

I don't know if I can pick a favorite season--I also love living where we get a taste of all four! I wish we had some more snow this year though...although last year we had so much that we had to shovel the roof for fear of collapse. I think my favorite is early autumn--I LOVE the change of the leaves, the pumpkins--all of the color is just wonderful for my senses! I also really enjoy the cooler weather for running...those first autumn runs on the curvy New England roads with all of the trees awash in vivid colors are wonderful.

I love the seasons also and it seems like lately we haven't had much of our springs or falls, but this last year our fall was awesome. Unseasonably warmer for a longer period of time which reminded me of when I was a kid. I also like winter but not so much if it is icy or alot of snow. Last fall, 2 days after Thanksgiving, I fell down our steps and broke a bone in my right foot and shattered a joint in my left foot and needed surgery so I was stuck in a wheel chair for almost the entire winter because it was non-weight bearing and my husband shuffling me to and from work, the bad weather wasn't really much fun. And let me just say I have a much greater appreciation for any handicapped. But let me just say there is a lot to be said for those big big snowflakes floating down from the sky when I'm all cozy inside!

I love this bright and cheery quilt; the red check is adorable and just PERFECT! I think it's your best ever though the selvage quilt is cute, too.

My favorite season would be Spring. I love the warm days and cool nights, as well as the new growth.

I can't say I have a favorite season....but maybe spring and fall would take over....not to hot and not to cold. Love the quilt and scrappy dresden!

I really like Spring, but I think my favorite season in Fall. I live in the very hot and humid south and the Summers can be pretty oppressive-- and those first few cool weeks of Fall-- when the air gets a little nippy at night, and you can open your windows and let the fresh air in, an you can have campfires to toast marshmallows... ahhhh Yep! I love Fall! :-)

Do I have to choose just one season? I love Spring for the baby lambs in the fields and I love Fall for the colours!

Great looking scrappy quilt...very pretty!

Well, I love summer too. People think I'm weird, because I even love the humidity of a midwestern summer!

Halloween. I love to see the kids and I love packing gift bags with all kinds of little toys. I don't give much candy, just lots of little fun stuff.

SUMMER!!! I am from AZ living in the Northwest and right now it is wet, wet, rainy, and did I mention wet? The sun has not peeked through the clouds in days and by the time summer gets here I will be spending hours outside, in the hottest part of the day soaking up the rays. oh, how I miss the sun in AZ right about now!

My favorite season is summer, although fall is a close second with all the beautiful colors.

I used to say that my favorite season was summer....and I do love it! But lately I'm finding that I love spring (when we finally lose the bitter cold Chicago weather) and fall (when we finally get rid of the Chicago humidity)!!!

I love autumn, the weather's still nice..not too hot but not cold yet either. The leaves begin to change colour, the garden is nearly finished for the year and you can look forward to sitting quietly with some stitching!!

What a fun quilt top! It reminds me of a country fair. Autumn is my favorite season. the earth changes colors and that means Christmas is just around the corner.

I have never heard of Tiger Tape and I'm itching to do some hand quilting. Anything to help me keep a straight line is a welcome product. I'm loving your Dresden work. That's also on my to do list. Thanks for inspiring!
Oh almost forgot, my favorite season is Fall...hands down!

My favorite season is Spring. It is like a new begginning with everything coming to life. Everything seems fresh after the long, cold winter. I love your scrappy Dresdan Plate. What a great idea! I like to make Dresdan Plate quilts so this would be a fun thing for me to try. Thank you for the giveaway. Joyce-ccarter13@windstream.net

These are all gorgeous!

My favorite season is spring. I love the newness after the drab barrenness of winter, and the lush shades of green are never the same again for the rest of the year. Besides, who doesn't love when the birds are nesting?

It is just January and I am already wishing the year away longing for Summer! Summer is definitely my favorite!

Beautiful!! Both of them! The scrappy quilt is fabulous. Love the gingham border!

As for seasons, it's SO hard to choose! But I always get inspired to quilt in the fall, so I guess that would have to be my favorite. ;o)

What a fab, cheerful quilt!

I'm a spring girl... summer gets too hot for me!

Great idea on a yearly scrap quilt. I am definitely a spring girl but living here in the deep south is starting to make me miss snowy winters. I'm dreaming of getting snowed in and having more excuses to sew all day!

Hmmm.. a favorite season? I love the spring and the flowering trees and getting the garden going. I love a winter snow day. I love a walk in cool autumnal weather. And I love being home with my kids for the summer. So I guess I have no favorite season, but favorite types of days in each season.

Spring or Fall. Winter is too cold and summer is too hot.

Love the small matts. What a great idea to make a quilt at the end of each year using fabrics from all your quilts. Scrappy quilts are becoming my very favorite....right now.

My favorite season is fall. It's the perfect temperature of not too hot but not too cold and the colors are fantastic.

There's so much to do during the winter as long as you're willing to bundle up! Gotta love xc skiing and snowshoeing. Summer is great for hiking and for long outdoor runs. However, fall is definitely my favorite time - beautiful colors and new school years!

Beautiful work! I love the scrap quilt design, and the beautiful work in blue. Lovely. Seasons? I like the variety that comes from seasons changing. If I had a favorite, it would be those "perfect" days that are not too hot, and not too cold ... they usually happen in late spring and early fall ...

Oh! I want to make a scrappy blue Dresden too! Love it!! :-)

My favorite season is summer. I love to be at the beach. I don't usually go in the water. It's usually too cold for me, but I love sitting in the sand and watching the waves. I also love working in my garden and seeing my beautiful day lilies.

So excited to read about Tiger's Tape, & I love that Dresden quilt. My favorite season has to be Fall. My Fall starts the first of Sept. & goes through mid-Nov., when I start merging in some Christmas....lol!

I just have to tell you what a brilliant idea I think your scrap quilts are. I have shared it with my quilty friends, and although we all had the same initial reacion---oh, it's too late! I wish I had done this from the beginning!--we have each gotten past that and are going to "begin where we are", and start saving our 2012 scraps for next year's quilt. How does it feel to be an inspiration?

I am another all season lover, but if a favorite had to be named, probably fall for the wonderful colors, and because it's harvest time on the farm!
