Olfa Celebrates 35 Years of the Rotary Cutter !!!

I was completely thrilled when OLFA contacted me and asked if I wanted to participate in celebrating 35 years of the Rotary Cutter! I LOVE my OLFA products so that was kind of a no brainer! LOL

A few weeks later, this fun box came in the mail with some OLFA goodies!  And then we went on vacation.. twice! {k... so all the product is fabulous...but seriously...do you see that cute little rotary cutter pin!} I was so happy to get away for some vacation time, but itchin' to get home and play with my new tools!

Part of the celebration included me sewing up a 6 1/2" quilt block that will be sewn into a quilt that OLFA will have on display.  As soon as I returned from vacation, I went to work...

Here is my block!  I LOVE these bee fabrics and the scraps I have left are almost gone... I've been hoarding them for something special and I thought the colors were perfect for my OLFA quilt block.

Why did I choose White, Aqua, Yellow, Gray and a touch of Black?  Because when I think of OLFA I think of my FAVORITE rotary cutter...the Splash Rotary Cutter! I know there's been a lot of "hype" surrounding these cutters.. but truly... it's my favorite cutter to use.

And so when I was diggin through one of my scrap baskets... I knew I would make a block that reminded me of my Splash... And the polka dot yellow reminds me of the O in OLFA too. :)

Included in the goodie box from OLFA was this ruler. A 6.5" x 6.5" Frosted Advantage Ruler. I have another brand of ruler that I REALLY like. So I was a little hesitant to use this one. BUT... oh my! I think I have a new favorite 6.5" x 6.5" ruler too! Not only does the frosted acrylic make it easier to read the numbers and cuts down on the glare from my light over my cutting table, but it's NON-SLIP too! And it really is non-slip! I love the dashed lines too.

I had to take a picture of my block, my new favorite 6.5"x6.5" ruler and the super cute little Rotary Cutter they sent too!  I've always wanted the smaller rotary cutter, but just never bought one. I've used it already and I'm super happy to have it as one of my tools in my sewing studio!

How would you like to help celebrate OlFA's 35 years of the Rotary Cutter?

OLFA is giving away a Rotary Cutter and small cutting mat to one of my readers! Woot!

Just leave a comment on this post telling me what your favorite tool in your sewing space is, and you'll be entered to win!

GOOD LUCK !

Entries will be accepted until Friday August 1st at 2:00 p.m.  A winner will be selected at that time and announced Saturday Morning August 2nd. [2014]

My favorite tool? My rotary cutter of course! Mine is about 25 years old and I still use it most of the time. Although I have acquired different styles along the years, I still go back to my first Olfa!

I adore my seam ripper. My brother is a wood worker and he made it from wood from his wife's farm which is across the highway from the one room elementary school we attended. Thanks for the giveaway.

My favorite tool is the rotary cutter, but I started my little quilting journey with a cheap one. I haven't as yet purchased an Olfa, but can see the advantage of good quality tools. (BTW, I adore your Olfa pin too).

What a great block! I can see why you saved those scraps and this is the perfect place for them!
My favorite tool, unfortunately, is my seam ripper. Or should I say, seam rippers. I have so many. I keep putting one down and then can't locate it immediately, so have bought quite a few over the years so I always have one handy. I have found that if I say "it's ok, I can make it work" I always end up having to rip out stitches in the end. So now, if it's the least bit off, I try to rip out and fix whatever was wrong right away. I'm usually happier if I do it right away rather than tugging, pulling, etc to try to make do. Actually, it is quite fortunate that there are seam rippers. I can't imagine what I would do otherwise, so hard to pick out stitches without them!
thanks for the great giveaway!

Truth be told I love my rotating cutting mat. It is the best since I don't pick up my blocks and reposition them to trim the opposite 2 sides. I couldn't live without it. Thanks for the chance to win.

Sigi G said...

What can I say, but that my rotary cutter and mat are my favorite tools because after choosing which Fabric to use in my projects - my absolute favorite thing to do - is cutting into all the Fabric!

Although I own and use 3 sizes of Olfa rotary cutters and 3 different Olfa mats, my favorite tool in my sewing room is still my Singer 301 sewing machine. Cutting is a necessity on my part, sewing is relaxing and where I start to see the process. I own multiple machines, but the 301 just rocks along and is not likely to cause me problems. a workhorse for sure.

Has it really been 35 years??? Oh my. I love my Splash cutter too and I have to say that the frosted rulers are amazing. It is fabulous for cutting, but essential for marking my embroidery on dark fabrics.

My favorite tool would have to be my scissors - only because I can use them anywhere.

My favorite tool is my 60mm Olfa rotary cutter. I wouldn't sew much at all if I didn't have that because of my hands that are not very good after having surgeries on both hands and wrists. Scissors hurt to use for very long so I was thrilled to buy my first rotary cutter and mat; and yes, they're Olfa of course. Just like in my kitchen, I don't buy generic because I don't want to buy 2 or 3 generic tools when I can spend more and get one that will last for a long time.
