The Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show

The husband and I have returned from our fabulous 12 days away.  We had a great time! It was really hard to come home...

We spent the first part of our trip in Sisters [Oregon].... with Saturday being the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show!  I am always so amazed at how the whole community comes together and puts on this extremely well done show.

This year the school grounds were home to the Quilted In Honor by Island Batik exhibit. "A collection created by 50 celebrity quilters that pays tribute to, and financially benefits, military personnel and their families." {The Bulletin, Sisters, Oregon}  Such great quilts!

It was a beautiful hot day! {a little too hot for even the sun loving me}...
But the gorgeous blue skies and the fun little town of Sisters make a great backdrop for some fabulous quilts!

This is the quilt I entered in the show this year.  My Uncle Sam's Bow Ties quilt. I designed and pieced the quilt for an issue of Quilt it Today magazine last year. {Pattern Coming Soon!} The fabulous Jenny Pedigo quilted it and it's one of my favorite quilts.

I couldn't help but take pics of the other quilters taking pics of my quilt! LOL

I always enjoy the beautiful flowers all thru town.  It's hard not to take pictures of them all!

Personally I think there was a LOT more color this year in the quilts. I would love to know what others that attended thought?  Of course that's what I usually gravitate towards, but it seemed there was color around every corner. And I LOVED it.

Last year I took a few pics of the hats these group of women wore.  This year when I came around a corner and there they all were, I asked to take a group picture. And what a fun story behind this group!  {Ladies if I tell it wrong, be sure to let me know in the comments}

They call themselves the Sunflower Sisters. Five of them attended first grade together and all of them graduated together! How fun is that! How lucky {blessed} they are to be able to keep their friendships going through all the years.

This picture does not do this quilt justice.  In person it is so stunning. The quilter asked friends and family to give her a fat quarter of a rainbow colored batik for her 60th birthday. From those gifts she designed the quilt. "Turning 60"...  What a fantastic idea! And a gorgeous quilt!

If you ever get the chance to come to Oregon and attend the show. You should! It's well worth it. And if you're a quilter... you should totally enter a quilt next year! :)

I can't end this post without mentioning that I finally got to meet a blogging and Instagram friend at the show! First I bumped into Penny from Sew Take a Hike! We've been blogging "buddies" for so long and it's such a thrill to be able to meet your blogging friends in real life!  And then I bumped into Heather who I started following on IG {Oregonsurfers} I was pretty excited to be able to meet them both.  It was the highlight of my day. Thanks girls!
K.  I'll be back in a few days with more pics from our trip!  ooxx`jodi

I'm not a blogger but a big time blog reader!! I was at the show for the first time with my niece who lives in Washington. This show was so wonderful in so many ways. I WAS taking a picture of your quilt that day too. It would have been awesome to have met you. Crazy hot day but we cooled off with margaritas at Los Agaves in town. There were many wonderful quilts in many different skill levels. I don't know how many times I said "Oh! Look at that!" Great town, beautiful flowers and friendly people!
I checked that one off my bucket list!

Wow, thank you for taking us on your trip to Sisters with your amazing photos... Talk about Color Therapy... Oh, and how fun that would have been to see your quilt hanging in such a cute spot in the show with people clustered around it taking pictures! Love the Sunflower Sisters too. What a fun time... some day!

Oh Jodi Nelson! how exciting to think that you were at Sisters Quilt show too!! and I LOVED your quilt, have a photo of it but didn't read the tag obviously as it would have been great to have known that bow tie quilt was yours!! Been a fan of yours for years and I love your quilts and quilting. Our Fraser Valley Modern Quilt guild went down, at least 15 of us were on a bus tour. My first time in Oregon and at Sisters - won't be the last either. We all just LOVED it - all the best, Darlene
